A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays

The winter break present a wealth of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using meditation skills to not snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling developments emerged during the festive period, and if you didn't see a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara.
